October Case Updates Print E-mail

Christian School Permitted to Open

Praise the Lord that a Christian school in PENNSYLVANIA was able to open its doors after attorneys for CLA contacted city officials on behalf of the church.  City officials had been threatening to padlock the doors and not allow the school to open this year.

Some Education Needed in Public Schools

Pray for a church in GEORGIA that wants to sponsor a before-school Bible club for students, but school officials are opposing the idea.
Pray for a church in NEW YORK that wants to start an after-school Bible Club.  School officials have told them that “school and religion don’t mix,” but courts require schools to treat Bible clubs like any other after school activity.
Pray for parents nationwide who want to opt out their children from profane and anti-religious public school classes and activities.  Attorneys for CLA are involved with parents in ARIZONA and TEXAS, as well as in many other states.  State and federal law requires schools to provide accommodations for religious students.
Pray for students in NORTH CAROLINA who want to give religious information to their school friends.  Courts protect rights of student free speech in public schools.

…And in America’s Public Colleges

Pray for a university student in ARIZONA who received a failing grade on a college paper because she used the church as an illustration of the topic being discussed.

Senior Center Rights

Praise the Lord that participants in a SOUTH CAROLINA Senior citizen center will be permitted to have a Bible study group after receiving help from attorneys for CLA.  Center officials mistakenly believed they had to ban Bible study groups because they receive federal funding.

Retired Judges Still Serving

Pray for a retired judge in LOUISIANA who is seeking to interest other judicial retirees in making a positive contribution to improving our legal system based upon the principles of our Founding Fathers.  Pray that this group will grow and gain influence.

Religious Speech at Work

While secular workers are regularly permitted to use profanity and discuss all manner of spiritually inappropriate issues in the workplace, Christians across AMERICA are being told to keep their religious views and speech at home.  Pray for a worker in MINNESOTA who regularly sprinkles her conversations with Scripture and is being told she will be terminated if she does not change her speech in the workplace.
Praise the Lord that a Christian worker in KANSAS had disciplinary actions overturned after his employer was contacted by attorneys for CLA.  This worker is now able to appropriately express his religious views in the workplace.
Pray for a FLORIDA teen who is suing her former employer for requiring her to choose between her religion and her job.  Attorneys for CLA are handling this case in court.
Pray for a chaplain in a private FLORIDA hospital who was terminated because he opens chaplaincy meetings with prayer in Jesus name.  His hospital supervisor erroneously claimed that all prayers in Jesus’ name are illegal.  Citizens in the community are supporting the chaplain.

The Law Protects the Gospel

Praise the Lord that charges were dropped against a community leader and business owner in NORTH CAROLINA who was arrested after witnessing in front of a local adult establishment.
Pray for soul winners in NORTH CAROLINA where the city council has targeted their public activities with a prohibitive ordinance.  Attorneys for CLA are taking this case to court.
Pray for a church in MAINE that is experiencing legal difficulties in setting up a ministry to the poor in their community.

Signs of the Times

Pray for a church in NEW JERSEY that is fighting for their right to retain a sign on their ministry property.  Also, pray for a church in MAINE that is embroiled in a legal controversy to retain an evangelical billboard in their community.  The sign has existed for decades; however, some in the community began to complain after the church added an evangelical message on the sign.

Freedom for Christian Colleges

Praise the Lord that the TEXAS Supreme Court has determined that regulating Christian colleges violates both the U.S. and Texas Constitutions.  Pray for other states, including MICHIGAN and CONNECTICUT, where attorneys for CLA are working with several schools.

God’s Favor Needed for Prison Ministry

Pray for a ministry in the MIDWEST that is seeking ministry access to juvenile detention facilities.  Decisions regarding prison access are highly relational.  Pray that this group will gain favor with prison officials.
