March Case Updates Print E-mail

Standing Firm

Please pray for a city worker in NEW MEXICO who was being accommodated regarding his belief that he was required to attend church on Sundays, however, now that he has been assigned to a new supervisor, this accommodation is no longer being made and he is even being disciplined for taking his vacation days on Sundays in order to attend church.

Pray for a state worker in NEBRASKA who is facing a similar situation and who may lose his job if he continues to refuse Sunday work.  Although workers may sue employers for religious discrimination, such legal action is often successful only after the worker has been fired.

The Offense of the Gospel

Please pray for safety for a very effective soul winner in GEORGIA who has been receiving threatening emails.  Please pray also that the emailer will respond to the Gospel that has been presented to him.

Parental Control Undermined

Please pray for a heart broken Christian mother in NORTH CAROLINA who recently learned her son had started a Gay Straight Alliance club at his school and the school was not legally required to inform her about his activity.  Pray for state legislatures and school boards that are considering requiring parental permission for students to attend these clubs, which can present a physical and mental health risk for children.

Please also pray for a school board in FLORIDA that barred a Gay Straight Alliance club from forming at the school and has now been sued.

Diversity Lost

Pray for a private college student in NORTH CAROLINA whose professor refused to grade her essay on gay marriage because she included Bible verses in her analysis of this issue.

Church Accessibility

Please pray for a church in MASSACHUSETTS that is facing fines up to $1000/day because there is no handicap access ramp to the church platform.  The church platform is generally handicap-accessible through use of a lift, but local officials are saying this is not good enough.

Apology Accepted

Praise the Lord that, after intervention by attorneys for CLA, a public school teacher in ARIZONA apologized to a fourth grade student and to the entire class after punishing the student when he answered the teacher’s question, “Who do you trust the most?” by saying, “God.”  Students do have free speech rights even in the classroom to discuss religion in appropriate contexts.

Bible Club Wins

Praise the Lord that attorneys for CLA have been able to provide students with information to successfully form public school Bible clubs in OREGON and CALIFORNIA, where schools were initially hostile to the idea.

Feeding Program Continues

Praise the Lord that a homeless shelter in FLORIDA has been able to make an informal arrangement with local officials in order to keep the mission open and continue to feed the hungry in their community.

Church Continues

Praise the Lord that with help from attorneys for CLA a TENNESSEE church is resolving its ongoing zoning issues with the city.  Zoning officials had threatened to cut off electricity to the church, but services have continued while the zoning issues are resolved.

The Gospel at Work

Praise the Lord that after contacting attorneys for CLA, a workplace Bible study group is meeting in OHIO and the company’s HR director has even joined the group.

Careful Discipline

Praise the Lord that a Christian school in DELAWARE has avoided a lawsuit from parents of a disruptive student who was expelled from the school.  Attorneys for CLA guided the school administrator through the process of investigating school violations, meeting the concerns of the parents, and reaching a fair decision.  Whenever a school must make a difficult decision involving disciplinary action, the administration must take careful steps to protect the ministry from potential lawsuits.
