June Case Updates |
|
|
Christians who believe the Bible accept the Genesis Creation account as historical fact. This month, you'll read about one Christian scientist who was fired from his job as a researcher for mentioning his belief in Biblical Creationism! You'll also read about the vindication of Christian rights in some of the most unlikely places, and some long-in-coming victories for homeschoolers in California. Pray for the cases and victories handled by CLA attorneys this month in our June Case Updates.
“If you believe in Creation, you’re FIRED!”Pray for a Ph.D. scientist in MASSACHUSETTS who was dismissed from a research position after mentioning to his supervisor that he believes in Creation. Pray for our attorneys as we defend this man’s sincerely held religious beliefs.
Church Counters Gay Pride:Pray for a church in MONTANA that wants to counter a gay pride festival and parade with their own Jesus Day and parade the following week.
No Christian School Allowed in Church BuildingPray that a church in NEW YORK will be successful in overcoming zoning obstacles to opening a Christian school in the church building.
Prayer VictoriesPraise the Lord that after consulting with attorneys for CLA, a Christian group at a CALIFORNIA state university held a successful prayer event on campus.
Praise the Lord that after consulting with attorneys for CLA, a supervisor in a state government office in NORTH CAROLINA will permit employees to hold a voluntary prayer meeting before beginning their work day.
Some Towns Want Liquor Not ChurchesPlease pray for a church in MICHIGAN that is battling to prevent a business establishment from selling alcohol near their ministry in violation of the law. Also, please also pray for a church in GEORGIA that is trying to locate in a downtown area, but is having difficulty finding a property because local restaurants sell alcohol and do not want a church to locate nearby.
Legal Protection for Christian SchoolsPraise the Lord that legislators in INDIANA will continue to protect churches and Christian schools from state licensing requirements when they serve food at fundraising events like bake sales.
Homeschoolers Welcome to Attend UniversitiesPraise the Lord that a growing number of admission offices in state universities in CALIFORNIA are welcoming home school students and evaluating them on the basis of their abilities rather than their choice of schooling. Pray that this will become a national trend. The U.S. Department of Education reports that 1.1 million, or 2.2% of all students in the U.S., are home schooled. Other top universities that provide application procedures for home schoolers are located in MICHIGAN, OREGON, TEXAS and MASSACHUSETTS.
Bible Study VictoryPraise the Lord that after attorneys for CLA became involved, an apartment resident in TEXAS was permitted to hold Bible studies in the common area. But the matter still needs prayer. The manager will still not permit this group to advertise its meetings on the bulletin board like other groups do. The law does not permit a landlord to discriminate on the basis of religion.
Stealing Religious BooksPray for a Christian government worker in OREGON who filed a religious harassment complaint against another employee who was removing her Christian material from the lunch room book rack before anyone could read it. Instead of dealing with the complaint, the Christian was told to remove her religious items. Praise the Lord that after attorneys for CLA became involved, the religious material is again permitted in the book rack.
Resolution ApproachingPray for a successful outcome for a government worker in NEW MEXICO in his arbitration with city officials regarding his right to be accommodated in his religious conviction against working on Sundays.
School Removes “God”Pray for a PENNSYLVANIA student who attends a charter cyber school. The school removed the word “God” from a poem the student had written for a creative writing class before posting it with poems written by other students. The school has been asked to post the poem in its original form. |
