Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas in his concurring opinion in Morse v. Frederick commented on education in early America:

Early education activists, such as Benjamin Rush, believed public schools “help[ed] control the innate selfishness of the individual.”

Teachers instilled these values not only by presenting ideas but also through strict discipline. Schools punished students for behavior the school considered disrespectful or wrong.  Children were punished for idleness, talking, profanity, and slovenliness. Rules of etiquette were enforced, and courteous behavior was demanded. To meet their educational objectives, schools required absolute obedience [and] the strictest sense of propriety by the pupils towards the teacher, and towards each other.

In short, in the earliest public schools, teachers taught, and students listened. Teachers commanded, and students obeyed. Teachers did not rely solely on the power of ideas to persuade; they relied on discipline to maintain order.

From a ministry leader in the Midwest:

Thanks again for your quick response and faithful professional support. Frankly, I don’t know what I’d do without you folks at CLA.

From a ministry leader in New England:

Thank you for your generous, selfless, timely, rescue of our ministry.

From a government employee in Massachusetts:

I want to sincerely thank you for taking the time to forward this information. It is extremely helpful to me. Massachusetts is a battleground as you are well aware, and yet the people are very needy and don't realize it! Please pray for us here and pray that the Lord will do a mighty work in the churches and in the hearts of the Christians throughout this state.

From an elected official in the West:

I am very thankful for how your firm responds and for you at CLA for being in the trenches defending those on the front lines. With deepest sincerity, may our Lord richly bless you all for all you do!

From a pastor’s widow in the South:

Dear Mrs. Gibbs:
I have just finished reading your devotion book entitled, From My Heart To Yours. I started the book at the beginning of this year. However, on April 20, my husband was diagnosed with terminal melanoma cancer. He passed away in late May. During the time we cared for him, I was unable to keep up with your daily devotionals. But they were a real blessing to me after my husband passed away. It was almost like the ones I read prior to his illness prepared me for that, and then the ones I read after he died helped me deal with that.

I just wanted to share this with you, and let you know what a great blessing this book was to my heart. I know you must hear from many people, but I just knew an author would want to know how much her writing had touched someone else’s life. Thank you for the hard work and effort you put into this book.

My husband attended many seminars where Bro. David was the guest speaker. His church followed many of his legal guidelines and principles. But most of all his sermons spoke to our hearts every time we heard him speak. We appreciate both of you so much for all you’ve done for our family!

May God continue to bless you richly. Thanks again!
