August Case Updates Print E-mail

Surely no one in America would file a lawsuit against a church, right?  Unfortunately, our society in general has lost its proper respect for the Lord's work.  Every day, CLA attorneys handle threats of litigation against churches and other ministries.  In this month's case updates, you'll read about Christian schools in New Mexico and California being threatened right now, about a church group in the Midwest being banned from playing baseball at a local park, and many more cases that we trust will prompt you to pray right now for our legal missionaries.

Your prayers for the CLA cases are greatly needed are deeply appreciated!

Christian Educators Under Attack

Pray for a Christian school in New Mexico where disgruntled parents are threatening a lawsuit. Also, pray for a Christian school in California that is being threatened with a lawsuit from a teacher who was dismissed for misconduct.   CLA defends the rights of Christian schools to maintain their Bible-based distinctives.

Christians Play Ball Too

Praise the Lord that a community park in the Midwest will permit a local church to use the community ball field for a sports camp.  After receiving a letter from attorneys for the Christian Law Association, the recreation board met and voted that the church could use the park.

Bible Study Group Continues

Praise the Lord that after receiving information from attorneys for CLA, employees in New England are continuing with their voluntary lunchtime Bible study group.  Supervisors had threatened to shut down the Bible study when another employee complained about it.

Victory for a Pastor’s Wife

Praise the Lord that a pastor’s wife in the West will be permitted to wear a skirt at her job in a local restaurant.  Initially, her employer had been reluctant to allow her this accommodation for her religious beliefs.  CLA is honored to represent Christian employees and make sure their rights are protected in the secular workplace.

Embezzlement in the Church

Pray for a number of churches Nationwide that have been victimized by formerly trusted bookkeepers who embezzled funds.  CLA serves churches at no charge nationwide when these unfortunate financial calamities occur to the work of the Lord.

All Children Need Jesus

Pray for a soul winner in Texas who wants to organize a children’s Bible study at a local HUD apartment complex and is facing resistance.

Prayer in Jesus Name Attacks Continue

Pray for a city council member in Minnesota who has been criticized for praying in Jesus’ name at council meetings.  So far, no lawsuit has been filed.  Also, praise the Lord that a county commission in California has decided to continue permitting pastors to choose to pray in Jesus’ name.  Attorneys for CLA intervened on behalf of a pastor who had been told he would no longer be invited to pray if he continued these “sectarian” prayers.

No Creationists Allowed

Pray for a scientist who was fired from his research position in Massachusetts after his supervisors learned that he believes in Creation.  His case appears headed to federal court represented by CLA.

Keep Them Out

Pray for a youth pastor in Florida who was fired from his position as a counselor for troubled youth when he refused to promise his superiors that he would never permit his counselees to attend his church.  Also, pray for a counselor in the South who led a child to Christ during a public school summer camping program and is now being threatened.

Liquor Licenses

Pray for a church in the South that is attempting to prevent a nearby restaurant from being issued a liquor license.  Praise the Lord that a church in Georgia convinced a county commission to deny an application for liquor license after seeing photographs of the many activities for children and youth that were conducted at the church.

Churches Not Welcome

Pray for a church in Nebraska that is having difficulty obtaining a zoning permit.  Also, pray for a church in Wisconsin where the local government is seeking to appropriate church land by eminent domain.  Remember also a church in Ohio where neighbors have complained to the authorities to stop them from meeting.  Pray for a new church in North Carolina that wants to rent public building for services; but a rental agent has said the owners do not rent to churches. CLA stands in defense of church ministries right to exist and use their land nationwide.

Your prayers for the CLA cases are deeply appreciated!
