The Christian Law Association works diligently to keep America open for the Gospel. Along the way, over nearly forty years of legally defending soul winners, attorneys for CLA have met some very wonderful people. This month we want to introduce two of these people to you. Pastor Glendy Hamilton and Pastor Corey Seulean have been used of God to win thousands in America to Jesus Christ. Both of these men have taken on a personal challenge to lead at least one person to Jesus Christ every day. Encourage your heart by reading the stories of these two faithful men who show us that "with God nothing shall be impossible."
Pastor Glendy Hamilton On April 1, 1994, Pastor Glendy Hamilton of Orlando, Florida, made a life-changing commitment to God. On that unforgettable Friday, Pastor Hamilton promised before God that he would lead at least one soul to Christ each day, and he has faithfully kept that promise. Pastor Hamilton felt challenged by Jesus’ parable of the vineyard (Matthew 21:33 – 46), and from that day forward, he purposed in his heart that he would allow God to use him as a witness for his Savior every single day. Now, fourteen years later, Pastor Hamilton continues to keep his promise. God has been faithful to bring someone searching for Jesus Christ into his life every single day. Not a day has passed in more than 14 years in which he has not seen at least one person turn from eternal death to everlasting life. In the beginning, Pastor Hamilton confesses that he was occasionally nervous about being able to find that person, but now, he tries to start witnessing in the morning to give himself enough time each day. Sometimes, Pastor Hamilton goes out on the streets; other times he goes into stores in search of those to whom he can show the way of salvation. Wal-Mart is one of his favorite places to witness (even though from a legal perspective, soul winners do not have the same absolute right to witness in stores as they have on public streets). Other times Pastor Hamilton says God has people walk right into his church asking questions and seeking salvation. When asked where he saw the largest number of converts in a single day, he replied, “At a funeral.” That day, he led approximately two hundred to the saving knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at one time. On average, Pastor Hamilton estimates that he wins about four hundred souls to Christ every year. He is not certain about that number because although he never ends the day without reaching at least one soul and although he keeps a record of who he leads to Christ every day, he has never added up the list. Talking to him, one clearly sees that this pastor does not win souls out of a selfish ambition to brag about his accomplishments, but from a complete surrender to the will of God in every area of his life. He admits there are times when he has felt himself waiver in his commitment, but he quickly pushes that thought from his mind. On rare occasions he has had to go out late in the evening in order to keep his promise to find one soul in need of Christ that day. At least two members of his church have joined their pastor in his commitment. They also faithfully ask God for at least one soul every day. Pastor Hamilton says God showed him many years ago the amazing truth of this verse from the Bible– “The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few;” ( Matt. 9:37b). Pastor Corey Seulean Two years ago, on a Wednesday night in 2006, Pastor Corey Seulean heard me share Pastor Hamilton’s amazing story. In my message, I challenged those listening that night by asking: “Why would you just want to do something great for God? Do something impossible.” Those words and Pastor Hamilton’s story sank deep into Pastor Seulean’s heart. The Holy Spirit nudged him, “You could do that.” Pastor Seulean protested, “But that is impossible!” Indeed it is! Pastor Seulean knew what he was talking about. He had been a soul winner for over 17 years, leading at least one person to Christ a week. He had even written a popular book on soul winning! But a new soul every single day seemed impossible. What about vacations? Travel days? What if he became ill? There seemed to be so many good reasons to avoid the daily soul challenge. But my message was the twelfth time God had spoken this same message to his heart. The time had finally come to surrender to the challenge, and Pastor Seulean asked God to allow him see one soul saved every day for the rest of his life. Now Pastor Seulean wonders what took him so long. Sometimes he even wonders how many souls might be destined for hell because he delayed so long in yielding to this challenge. During the first 660 days after he finally asked God to make him a daily soul winner, Pastor Seulean saw 1186 souls pray and ask Jesus to save them. People have come to Christ in homes, parks, offices (including his own), at airports, hotels, restaurants, gas stations and truck stops. Even at Starbucks and Disneyland, God has placed souls in need of salvation in his path. Rarely does it take more than an hour to see someone surrender his life to Christ. And usually, the first person he witnesses to every day gets saved. Interestingly, Pastor Seulean has noticed that since he made this commitment, he has never been sick enough to stay in bed for an entire day. On one occasion, like Pastor Hamilton, Pastor Seulean had to wait until past 11 p.m. to see someone saved. That was while he was on vacation and he finally led two relatives to Christ. This year, Pastor Seulean has set a new goal. He wants to lead at least 730 souls to Christ. That would be an average of two people a day. He is thinking of other goals for the future--what about 1000 souls a year. The pastor has some amazing stories to tell. On one trip to a teen camp, he was praying for God to show him a soul as he was driving the teens to their destination. He saw a public park just off the highway and pulled over. While the teens stretched their legs, Pastor Seulean saw a lady sitting at a picnic table watching her grandchildren. He walked over to her and handed her a tract from his church. The lady said she had a daughter in the same town, and it turned out that her daughter attended Pastor Seulean’s church. Pastor Seulean asked this grandmother if he could tell her about the faith in Christ her daughter had found at the church. Twenty minutes later, the angels in heaven were rejoicing over a new convert. Only God can arrange such divine appointments so consistently. One of the greatest blessings in Pastor Seulean’s life has been to see his twelve-year-old son make the same commitment. Pastor Seulean initially worried that he would be able to help his son have sufficient opportunities to keep this promise. But he stopped worrying after his son led someone to the Lord for more than 200 days in a row. America NOW Both Pastor Hamilton and Pastor Seulean provide an impossible challenge for each of us. Pastor Seulean regularly challenges others to join him as a daily soul winner. During one service, thirty six people dedicated themselves to this task. Other teens, like his son, have also committed themselves to winning at least one soul a day and they also have some amazing stories to tell of God’s faithfulness in this effort. Is God stirring your heart to take on the same challenge as Pastor Hamilton, Pastor Seulean and others they have influenced? CLA is targeting 2009 as the year to reach America for Christ. He is looking for 100,000 Christians to commit to handing out just ten Gospel tracts a day for one year. That would mean 1 million Gospel tracts put into the hands of lost souls in America every day--or 365 million Gospel tracts in 2009, whatever tract God leads you to choose. That number, 365 million, represents the fact that every person in our nation could receive knowledge of the Gospel in 2009. Are you up to the challenge? “Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen. “ (Eph. 3:20-21) |
