Certain issues advanced by our government have increased the number of calls that the Christian Law Association is receiving from churches and Christians nationwide.

 

The Homosexual Agenda

Homosexuality continues to become more accepted in our society, primarily through changes in government policy, court decisions, and teaching in our public schools.  Actions God views as sinful are being replaced with cultural pressure to support gay pride and to normalize homosexuality.

 

Several homosexuals have been appointed to key policy positions in government.

 

Kevin Jennings was named director of the Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools. Jennings previously developed and advocated programs for promoting homosexuality in public schools through the Gay Lesbian Straight Education Network (GLSEN).  He is an open homosexual and former schoolteacher who has written about his past drug abuse, expressed his contempt for religion, and has admitted that he did not report as child abuse an incident in which an underage student told him that he was having sex with older men.

 

Chai Feldblum, a lesbian attorney, was appointed to become commissioner of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).  This is a key position for developing workplace discrimination policy. 

 

June 2009 has been declared as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month for federal government workers.  In mid-June, a law was signed extending new benefits to gay and lesbian partners of federal employees

 

CLA offices received many calls from federal workers who had religious objections to supporting LGBT Pride Month in their workplaces.  Fortunately, most federal agencies did not promote gay pride activities that required employee participation.

 

 

It appears that current trends will end the existing “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy and allow homosexuals to serve openly in the military. 

 

A hate crime law that was attached to an important defense-spending bill has been passed.  This new law enhances penalties and provides for federal investigation of crimes against homosexuals and transgendered individuals. 

 

If our nation’s unprecedented and underreported pro-homosexual agenda continues to succeed, we will be ushered into not just an era of tolerance for homosexuality in America, but also the repression of important traditional Judeo-Christian values which provided the foundation for American families and American law The religious freedom our Constitution explicitly protects in the First Amendment could be taken from us under the guise of “equality” and protection for homosexuality.

 

Appointment of Federal Judges

The nomination and confirmation of federal judges is one of the most consequential responsibilities controlled by the executive branch and the Senate.  These appointments not only shape our present court system, they will inevitably shape the future of our nation.

 

The Senate confirmed Judge David Hamilton to the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals despite an attempted filibuster.  Judge Hamilton had previously ruled that American corporations could discriminate against Christians by not allowing religious affinity groups even when such affiliations were permitted for ethnic, sexual and other special interest groups.  He also issued a decision banning legislative prayers in Jesus’ Name while permitting prayers offered to Allah, a decision that was overturned on procedural grounds by the Seventh Circuit.

 

 

Our government recently appointed Thomas Perrelli as the third highest attorney in the Justice Department.  Perrelli supports euthanasia and assisted in the legal representation of Terri Schiavo’s husband Michael in his successful efforts to euthanize his disabled wife.

 

 

 

Stay Positive!

 

Although the battle for the heart and soul of our nation continues to rage, we cannot lose hope.  We know from the Word of God that the hope of America is in Jesus Christ and His local churches being the salt and light that they are commanded to be.

 

By faith, we know that only God can heal America and turn our culture back to the Bible-based principles of our Founding Fathers.  Acts 4:29 commands, “And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they make speak thy word.”
