Terms of Use Print E-mail
This Trademark Usage Policy will show you the proper use of CLA trademarks and logos. The terms of this section apply to the entire CLA Website.

Use the Correct Symbol.

When using a CLA trademark in text form ("CLA Mark") use the correct ® or ™ symbol on the most prominent (or if none is prominent, the first) appearance of a CLA Mark.

The basic rule is if you are using a CLA Mark that is registered with the U.S. Patent & Trademark office the ® symbol should be displayed, and if the CLA Mark is not yet registered, the ™ symbol should be displayed. Once a CLA Mark is correctly attributed on a document or web page, it is not ordinarily necessary to mark subsequent appearances of the trademark in the piece. Every appearance of a CLA Mark in stylized form or design ("CLA Logo") should also appear with the appropriate ® or ™ symbol, and may be used only under license from CLA.

Do Not Alter CLA Marks or CLA Logos.

When using a CLA Mark, never vary the spelling, add or delete hyphens, make one word two, or use a possessive or plural form of the CLA Mark. When using a CLA Logo, never modify the design, add or delete any words, change any colors or proportions.

Only CLA products and services may be used in conjunction with a CLA Logo.

Only Use CLA Product Names.

No third party logo or mark can be used in conjunction with the CLA Marks for CLA product names. In other words, do not combine the CLA Marks with third party trademarks.

Wherever a CLA Mark or CLA Logo appears with another company trademark or logo, the CLA Mark or CLA Logo must be at least as large as the trademark or logo of the other company.

Use Footnotes for Correct Attribution.

It is CLA's policy to attribute a CLA Mark or CLA Logo use by placing the information in a footnote as follows:

Example: "_____ is a trademark or a registered trademark of the Christian Law Association."

There is no "boilerplate" footnote. The blank space should be a list of all CLA Marks and CLA Logos that appear in that particular piece. If all CLA Marks and CLA Logos are registered trademarks, then the footnote should indicate as such. Footnotes should always be complete sentences, and ordinarily appear on the copyright page, on the last page of the material.

Power Point & Other Presentations

CLA Marks and CLA Logos, should always be attributed with the proper symbol and footnoted on all presentations that are displayed to the public (workshops, seminars, etc). If a presentation is used internally, the CLA Marks and CLA Logos should be attributed but need not be footnoted.

Third Party Licensors

If a CLA product includes technology used under license from third party licensors. You may not use any such third party trademark without express permission from the owner.

Reservation of Rights

CLA is the owner of all right, title, and interest in the CLA Marks and CLA Logos. No person or entity may reproduce or use (or authorize the reproduction or use of) the CLA Marks or CLA Logos in any manner other than expressly authorized by CLA. Unauthorized use of CLA Marks or CLA Logos is strictly prohibited.

CLA may, at its sole discretion, modify the CLA Marks or CLA Logos at any time. In order to assure compliance and quality of control, CLA may request that you provide samples of any marketing, advertising, or other material that includes the CLA Marks or CLA Logos.
